013 | Stop Demonizing Food
“Good” and “Bad” Foods
Today’s diet culture has made this concept of “good” and “bad” foods very common and also misguided. Eating healthy for a badass life is about prioritizing nutrient-dense foods and not demonizing foods that are less nutrient-dense. There’s room for everything as long as you’re being mindful about what you’re eating and why, and indulging in moderation.
It’s important to remember that food does not have morals, therefore they can’t be “good” or “bad”. The trap here is that when you identify foods in this way, you are setting yourself up to transfer that moral judgement to yourself, which is counterproductive to a badass life. You are not good or bad because of your food choices, and you disempower yourself when you believe that you are.
In this episode, I go into more detail about:
- The problems with demonizing food
- How to achieve your weight loss and/or healthy life goals without giving up foods you love
- How your diet is about your lifestyle and eating habits, not a short-term gimmick
Create Sustainable, Healthy Eating Habits
To create a sustainable lifestyle with healthy eating habits, I recommend:
- Tracking your food for 3-4 days, including a weekend day, to identify patterns where you’re over-indulging in less nutrient dense foods
- Identifying one simple change you can make to prioritize more whole foods/nutrient-dense foods
- Practice implementing that change for a week or two
- Return to step 1, and repeat
Is this approach quick? No. Is it sexy? Nope. Will it work and be sustainable for feeling better and eating a healthier diet? Yep.
