012 | How and Why to Journal for Stress Management, Resilience, and Personal Growth
Journaling can be a really powerful practice for self-exploration, personal development, and growth. It’s a practice I’ve been doing for many, many years, and is one that has supported my mental health and personal growth. I’ve processed so many experiences and learned so much about myself. I’ve used journaling to express gratitude and pour my heart out about things I’m passionate about.
Featured in this episode
Not only that, but journaling is a fantastic practice to use to learn more about yourself to help you manage stress and build your resilience, and I want you to feel empowered and confident to dive into this practice. Make it work for you! In this episode, I talk about:
- The arguments people have against journaling and how to get past that
- Some pretty kick-ass benefits
- What a journaling practice can look like
- Journal prompts for stress management, resilience, and personal growth
Taking down arguments
When it comes to the arguments that people have against journaling, I talk about the ones I hear the most often:
- They don’t know what to write about–they have nothing to say
- They don’t like to write
- They’re afraid someone will read it
- They don’t have time
Benefits of a journaling practice
The three benefits I talk more about include:
- You explore your thoughts and feelings more intentionally than you would with general passing thoughts throughout the day.
- You get the gunk out of your brain.
- You can set your mood for the day.
Next, I give you some ideas for what journaling can look like – and these thoughts might surprise you! In fact, some might argue that they don’t qualify as “journaling” at all. However, when you use journaling as a tool for self-discovery, thought processing, and personal growth, “journaling” can be musical, artistic, or completely internal thought work.
